more about skin rejuvenation

intense pulsed light (ipl) offers a breakthrough treatment for the signs of ageing caused by sun damage, such as brown spots (pigmentation), redness (thread veins) and poor skin texture (collagen). ipl treatments can quickly remove brown and red areas and stimulate the production of new collagen. ipl treatment is particularly effective when combined with other ukskinclinics treatments like chemical peels or microdermabrasion.

how does ipl work?

ipl systems release precisely controlled short pulses of filtered light which stimulate the cells in your skin which produce collagen and elastin. this improves the radiancy and tightness of your skin, controlling enlarged pores, and giving you a more uniform complexion.

how is the treatment carried out?

your skin is thoroughly cleansed, and then a mild and relaxing skin peel or some microdermabrasion is applied. both of these techniques remove the top layers of dead skin, leaving your skin feeling smoother and refreshed.

you'll then be asked to put on glasses to protect your eyes from the intense light.

a layer of chilled gel is applied to the treatment area to guide the light into the skin. then the light applicator is placed onto the skin and a short pulse of light is released. the applicator is then moved to the next area, and the process is repeated until the whole area is treated. the chilled gel is then removed and the area cooled.

will it work for me?

yes. fair skin is the easiest to treat, but our equipment is so advanced that it has pre-programmed settings to maximise results for a wide range of different skin types.

does it hurt?

no aneasthesia is needed, and most people describe the feeling as quite acceptable, rather like a quick pin prick.

is it safe?

sometimes clients' skin can become red after treatment, and very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker or a small blister may form. however, most clients experience no side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears in just a few hours. we always treat a small test area before your full treatments, so we can be sure that you won't have any adverse reactions.

what should i expect to happen after the treatment?

redness and a slight warming sensation are quite normal after treatment, and a cooling pack will be applied to your skin to ease these. you may see a darkening of any pigmented spots before they fall away, leaving a more even skin tone. tightening of the skin should increase over the following months as new collagen is deposited within the dermis. some clients notice a slight swelling over the cheekbones, which may last for up to 72 hours.

how many treatments will i need?

treatments are carried out every 2-3 weeks, and 6 treatments are recommended for maximum results. thereafter, occasional top up sessions can be arranged as required.

how long does each treatment take?

a typical facial treatment, including a skin peel or microdermabrasion, normally takes about 30-45 minutes.
